ob1david Listening party for this release was a wonderful experience. Nicholas’ passion for his creation was quite palpable as he typed away talking about tracks. Found the work brilliantly exciting, eclectic and very powerful when it came to fave for me, the Fiesty Kendall piece, Heard without reference to its track antecedents, it’s bloody wonderful stand out stuff. Looking forward to properly listening to the inspired back story pieces. One the best things I’ve added to my collection.

about

A career spanning collection of Nicholas Langley’s reinterpretations of music by various friends and Third Kind label mates. As well as acting as a producer, the tracks here often involve Langley acting as a composer, arranger and miscellaneous session musician, regularly adding violins, melodica, recorders, percussion, backing vocals and beat programming to the original source material.

[ LINKS TO SOME OF THE ORIGINAL WORKS CAN BE FOUND FURTHER DOWN ]

This 74min collection includes 14 tracks recorded during the last 28 years, which cover a broad range of approaches to remixes, from embellished yet still recognisable mixes to completely new or reimagined musical paths.

For example, ‘Systemize’ consists of 30 violin parts imitating, and piled over, the original Wrong Signals track until the original material can’t be heard. Two of the ‘Suddenly’ mixes were recorded live by manipulating a number of CD-Rs, reverb and feedback using CDJ decks and a mixer. The ‘Suddenly’ (Hz Beat Mix) was painstakingly programmed on a PlayStation 1 using the Music 2000 software, whilst ‘Radios’ and the more recent South African/Xitsonga-inspired ’Seamagnet’ were entirely programmed on a Yamaha SY85 and Zoom Sampletrak.
